Introduction

From the road which connects Santiago to Mendoza, looking north, the summit of Cerro Gloria (or Cerro La Gloria, as some call it), may be seen. It is the most visited peak of the Bastión Group, which lies between the Colorado River in the North and the Aconcagua River in the South, just before they join, at the end of the Cajón del Peñon.

Surrounded by great cliffs and lots of ice, this mountain has become popular among the andinists of the Vth region and among those who are beginning their high mountain adventures. Additionally, it has a beautiful view of the Nevado Juncal during all the final part of the ascent. An attractive weekend goal, even in winter.
